Wax appearance temperature
The wax appearance temperature (WAT) is the temperature at which the first wax crystals start to form, on cooling of paraffin/solvent systems. DSC is an effective tool to characterize the WAT for the oil industry, in turn to prevent and predict the occurrence of wax deposition.
Melting Point
When you measure the melting point in a DSC, you get not only the onset of melting but also the peak temperature, which corresponds to complete melting in organics and the energy that the melting transition needs in order to occur.
